Storage Planning
Self-storage is a convenient, safe and inexpensive way to store your belongings. Ask a Space World & Moving Center associate to help you choose a space that fits your needs. The rate for a storage space is determined by number of the items and length of time storage is used. An efficiently-packed small space will cost less than a larger space. If you frequently use the space, a larger space that is well-organized may be more convenient.
Your Rental Agreement
For your protection, Space World provides you with a written rental agreement. Read it thoroughly and ask for answers to your questions. Ask about frequency and amount of rent increases. Do you get money back if you move out in the middle of a month? What about late charges and lien sale practices?
Insure Your Stuff
The items you place in self-storage spaces are your sole responsibility. Items are not insured by Space World & Moving Center, Inc. We rent space and do not take care or custody of your property. Check with your insurance agent to see whether you are covered for storage. If not, Space World can offer you access to coverage.
Storage Tips
Most items should be disassembled for storage and stored with legs wrapped and labeled. This includes tables and furniture. All metal should have a light oil coating to protect from normal moisture (wrap and store away from fabrics). Protect breakable items such as dishes and glassware in special boxes so there will be ample room to pack each item separately in its own cocoon of newspaper -- all of which should then be surrounded by an additional wall of newspaper. We recommend that you store books and papers in boxes small enough to be easily lifted. Wardrobe boxes are temporary closets. Their depth allows you to store clothes on hangers. You'll find the unused space at the bottom very useful for storing shoes and other related items. Other helpful tips include sealing everything with tape and plastic tarps or padded covers. Label every box! And it's always a good idea to store the largest items at the back of your spaces, and the smallest items in the front. Contact a Space World associate for a list of more helpful moving tips.
Size Up Your Storage Needs
Most self-storage facilities offer a variety of unit sizes. Here are some space sizes and an idea of what items can fit into them:
5x5
This size may be perfect if you are storing a small piece of furniture such as a chest or an easy chair and some small boxes. You will need about as much room as a small bathroom or an average closet.
5x10 -- 5x15
A couch and a chair, chest of drawers, dresser or mattress set, plus small items and boxes. Also outdoor furniture, lawn mowers, garden tools, bicycles and/or motorcycles.
10x10 -- 10x15
Furniture from a one-bedroom apartment without appliances, also small items and boxes.
10x20 -- 10x25
Furniture from a two-bedroom house with appliances, miscellaneous items and cartons. This space may also be used to store a car or truck and other small items.
10x30 -- 10x40
Furniture from a three-bedroom house with miscellaneous items and cartons. It will hold contents of a 40 foot moving van. Also may be used to store a car or truck and other small items, depending on the height of the doors.
The Winning Ingredient
It's our people. We're very choosy about who's on the Space World team. We hire people who are proud of who they are and what they do. It shows in the business they manage. We go out of our way to find managers and personnel who live in the area. Our goal is to make every one of our people feel like owners, because every owner knows the importance of making customers feel important.
Little Things Count A Lot
If you care enough to store your belongings, it's important for you to notice that you're in a clean environment. We take ongoing pride in keeping each and every facility as tidy and attractive as the other businesses you trust. At Space World you see it all around you. All of our bathrooms are as clean as you'd expect in a modern department store. We're innovators in transforming our appearance from a warehouse to a landscaped industrial park look. You may choose climate control or regular storage. In some instances air conditioning/climate control is recommended. You cannot escape the effects of dampness unless you can control it. With Space World, climate control is a major advantage. You can be sure that whatever you store with us can be saved from the ravages of moisture. Think of it as having an air conditioned attic -- your valuables will be absolutely high and dry. There are phones and FAX machines for your convenience as well as boxes, moving supplies, tape, padlocks and products that are part of the solid Space World package.
So whether this is the first time you're using a professional storage facility or experience has brought you back to us -- Welcome, and thank you for choosing Space World & Moving Center, Inc.
